This candlestick utilizes the rare and costly desert ironwood, which is found only in the Sonoran Desert of southeastern California, southwestern Arizona, and northwestern Mexico.
The burl of this wood is particularly prized (and very expensive) and is frequently used to make knife handles and carvings. As might be suggested from the name, it is heavier than water. This candlestick uses ironwood in the twist and contrasts it with maple and purpleheart in the crown and base.
