Crown: African blackwood and tulipwood
Base: African blackwood and tulipwood
The twist: four start barley
Number of pieces: 28
23.5 in x 7.5 in, 59.7 cm x 19.1 cm
Notes: This is one of the tallest candlesticks in the collection and certainly one of the heaviest, consisting entirely of two rosewoods: lovely examples of the precious Brazilian tulipwood throughout and African blackwood in the crown and base. There is also an eight-start, partially hand-carved, fluted portion of the base that extends upward into the twist. It is hard to imagine that woods that are so very different in appearance are in the same genus (Dalbergia) and therefore closely related.
