Step 1: The twist always comes first because I am most excited about matching the very best piece of wood I can find with the best design for the twist. The twist is produced on the mill or the lathe. I have virtually no idea at this point how the base and crown will look at this point.
Step 2: A long period of time spent sitting in my chair in the shop thinking about the how to complement the twist with the design of the base and the crown.
Step 3: The base and crown are constructed and turned on the lathe.
Step 4: The twist is attached to the base and then to the crown.
Step 5: Final sanding occurs and at least 4 coats of spray polyurethane is applied.
Step 6: Final buffing and and inspection, naming, and signing.
